Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET the Big 12 tournament will have already taken of in earnest, with No. 17 Oklahoma (23-8, 12-6 Big 12) continuing the fun against unranked Baylor Bears (22-10, 9-9 Big 12), whose spot in the NCAA tournament is not assured thanks to spotty play in the conference. The Sooners are winners of three straight games, and although they're in no danger of missing the Big Dance, they are aiming high in the conference tourney. "We're still hungry," sophomore Buddy Hield, the Sooners' leading scorer said. "We've still got something to prove to everybody, and we're just trying to go and win basketball games."
"A lot of guys right now are playing with a high level of confidence. They've got good focus right now," said Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger. "They've made good progress, consistently throughout. The last three weeks especially, probably playing their best basketball. They know how tough it is, the journey that is ahead, and looking forward with excitement."
After a severely poor stretch in the middle of the conference slate, Baylor's ripped off an 8-1 stretch that likely saved their chances for an at-large berth. "I think our guys are happy with the win, but know that we have to play better and look forward to having that opportunity (Thursday)," coach Scott Drew said after a win over TCU yesterday. The win was No. 200 for Drew at Baylor.
"It's just going to be another Big 12 battle. Both teams are going to be ready," Baylor's top scorer Cory Jefferson said. "It was a close one at our house. So we're going to come out (Thursday), try to get a win. They're going to be ready to play us. Obviously they don't want to lose. So it's just going to be a good game."
