Landry Fields scored a season-high 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Toronto Raptors' 108-103 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.
For the Lakers, the top scorer Kobe Bryant added 26 points and five assists and Pau Gasol had 25 points and chipped in five rebounds. Steve Nash finished with 16 points and nine assists and Earl Clark had 14 points and 14 rebounds off the bench.
Toronto outscored the Lakers 29-20 in the first quarter, much to the dismay of Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni. "We started off awful, without any energy," he said.
Los Angeles defense stopped Toronto at 24 in the second quarter and scored 29 to cut the Raptors' lead to 53-49 at halftime.
The Lakers did not shoot well in the game as they made only 38 out of 88 attempts from the field, while the Raptors made 46-of-84 from the floor. The bad shooting resulted in the Lakers siffering their eighth defeat in the last 10 games.
"We've got a lot of issues," the Associated Press quoted D'Antoni as saying. "Offensively the ball sticks and we don't take very good shots. Defensively, ups and downs, we forget guys."
For the Raptors, Jose Calderon was the top scorer with 22 points and nine assists, while Ed Davis added 18 points and chipped in eight rebounds. Alan Anderson had 14 points and eight assists and Amir Johnson finished with eight points and nine assists.
"That was one of the most complete games we've had all year, top to bottom," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said.
Bryant struggled with his shooting, making just 10 out of 32 attempts, which included 3-of-12 from the 3-point arc.
"I've just got to rest my legs," Bryant said. "My legs are a little tired. My shots are just short. That's on me. I'll take this loss on me, gladly. There were a lot of easy shots, a lot of them, that I should have put down.
"My offense was sub-par in terms of missing easy shots. I've got to do a better job of putting that ball in the hole when the opportunity presents itself."
Gasol added 10 points and Bryant scored nine in the third quarter for the Lakers, but the Raptors' Fields scored 10 points and Calderon and Davis had six points each to help Toronto outscore the Lakers 30-21 and extend their lead to 83-70.
Kyle Lowry's 3-pointer and Terrence Ross and Anderson's layups extended the Raptors' lead further to 95-76 lead with 7:29 left in the fourth quarter.
Bryant cut the lead to 103-97 by hitting a three-pointer with 1:35 remaining. But Amir Johnson scored off a layup to make it an eight-point game with 1:02 left.
The Lakers outscored the Raptors 33-26 in the final quarter, but lost the game by five points.
