Bart Scott joins CBS NFL Today Show, joining Tony Gonzalez; Dan Marino, Shannon Sharpe let go by network [VIDEO]

Former NFL star Bart Scott is set to officially join The NFL Today Show in 2014, after a getting a year of grooming on CBS Sports Network's The Other Pregame Show.

"Bart joining The NFL Today is a natural progression from his outstanding work during his first season on TOPS," CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus told the network. "Bart brings a dynamic personality and unique perspective as a recently retired player providing strong opinions on all the hot-button issues on a weekly basis. We are confident he will continue to bring that perspective and those opinions to The NFL Today."

Scott and former Falcons tight end have both joined the show since the Super Bowl earlier this month, replacing Shannon Sharpe and Dan Marino.James Brown remains as the host, alongside Boomer Esiason, Bill Cowher and insider Jason La Canfora.

Scott's played 11 NFL seasons, including a four-year stint with the Jets that coincided with Rex Ryan's arrival and ended in 2012. Over his career, he was known as one of the league's most colorful players and interviewees.

"Having just stepped off the playing field, Tony brings a fresh and insightful perspective," McManus said of Gonzales. "As a future Hall of Famer, we are excited for him to share his knowledge, experiences and opinions with our viewers."
