NFL Draft Combine: John Elway calls Johnny Manziel a 'great little player' [VIDEO]

Hall of Famer and current Denver Broncos executive vice president for football operations John Elway on Friday made a slip-up for calling Heisman winner Johnny Manziel a "great little" player but quickly apologized for belittling the NFL hopeful's height.

During the NFL draft combine held in Indianapolis last Friday night, Elway was asked about his opinion of Manziel. The Hall of Famer answered, as reported by the LA Times, "I think he's a great little player." Realizing the slip-up, he quickly added: "I don't say 'little,' I shouldn't say 'little.' I'm sorry."

Manziel's height as well as his Johnny Football image are the two biggest concerns that GMs and scouts around the league say may affect his draft stock. During the draft combine, Manziel was officially listed at 5-foot-11 ¾ inches and 210 pounds.

Two other Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks namely Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints stand almost like Manziel being listed at 5'10 and 6'0, respectively. The 6-foot-3 Elway was quick to weigh on the positives that Manziel brings to the table.

"I think his No. 1 quality is his competitive nature and wanting to win. In that position you have to have that. That's what makes him tick."

During the NFL Draft Combine, Manziel said he will play like he's 10 feet tall. "I play with a lot of heart, I play with a lot of passion, I feel like I play like I'm 10 feet tall. Those measurements to me are just a number," he said as quoted by ESPN.com.
