NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon is seeking to recoup some $200,000 he lost as part of a phony Miami Heat courtside tickets scam.
According to JockandStilettoJill.com, recently paid a man identified as George French Jones the lump sum of money for four suits team the FBI and team officials now say never existed. The website also reports the alleged perpetrator assured Moon he could also become a 5 percent minority owner in the team. Reportedly, Jones has also recently targeted other athletes for scams, including a former New England Patriot eight-time Pro Bowl player.
FBI officials now describe the scammers as an organized theft ring believed to be based in Los Angeles. Moon's Sports 1 Marketing company is now suing to recoup the money, but Jones has not recently been seen.
The 57-year-old Moon played 17 NFL seasons for four different teams and was a nine time Pro Bowl selection. He passed for 49, 325 yards and 291 touchdowns. Moon was inducted into the NFL Hall of fame in 2006, becoming the first African-American quarterback to merit such distinction.
More recently, Moon served as a mentor to quarterback Cam Newton, who was selected as the top overall pick of the 2011 Draft by the Carolina Panthers.
