Carmelo Anthony for Blake Griffin? Doc Rivers Calls Trade Talk “Stupid” [VIDEO]

Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers dismissed the reported Blake Griffin for Carmelo Anthony swap as stupid, perhaps putting to rest speculations that the Clippers were entertaining the idea of sending their high-flying superstar to New York in exchange for the explosive scorer Anthony.

Asked about reports on the proposed deal, Rivers replied as reported by ESPN.com: ""Please, this is stupid. If you're the Knicks or whoever, would you want Blake Griffin? I would," he said. "So I don't see what the story is."

Rivers was reacting to a story earlier reported by ESPN that both teams have had internal discussions about swapping their superstar forwards, with one league source saying the Clippers internal discussion decided it would be better off to keep Griffin.

"Call Pop [San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich] and ask if he would like Blake. I think he'd say, 'Yeah, I think so, yeah I think so,' " Rivers said. "We had nothing to do with it."

The Knicks are said to be entertaining the idea of dealing Anthony because the explosive scorer will not return to their fold in the off-season and instead leave as a free agent. Anthony has refused to give assurances that he will return to the team next year, giving Knicks management motivation to consider trading him so that they'll get someone in return in case Anthony does leave the club.
The trade proposal is also believed to have been spurred by the close relationship between Anthony and Paul. In 2010, Paul was said to have told close friends that he was looking forward to forming a trio with Anthony and Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire.
