The Miami Heat's quest for another championship ended in flames this season after their electric run to the NBA Finals in 2023.

The team had an early exit by the hands of the No.1 seed Boston Celtics in five games in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. This, of course, happened without stars Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier on the court.

Now that the Heat will look ahead to the offseason, the franchise is faced with some crucial decisions to make, particularly regarding the contract of one of their star players, Jimmy Butler.

Miami Heat president Pat Riley revealed on Monday that the front office hasn't had any conversations regarding giving the franchise cornerstone Jimmy Butler a contract extension and that trading Butler isn't on the table.

Riley also responded to comments made by Jimmy Butler stating that the Heat would've won over Boston or New York if he had been healthy.

"For him to say that, I thought, is that Jimmy trolling, or is that Jimmy serious? If you're not on the court playing against Boston or on the court playing against the New York Knicks, you should keep your mouth shut and your criticism of those teams," Pat Riley.

Jimmy Butler's Ongoing Contract Situation

According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, Jimmy Butler will seek a new two-year extension with Miami.

Chiang states that Butler is seeking an extension worth around $114 million this summer.

Butler appeared in 60 games for the Heat this season, averaging 20.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. Despite his solid stats, Jimmy Butler hasn't had the same impact that he did during their finals run; as he is also on the other side of 30, turning 35 before the next season starts.

Whether or not the Miami Heat give him a contract extension is up in the air, but you can't deny his impact on the team. Since signing with the team, Butler has managed to carry them to two NBA Finals (2020 and 2023) and an Eastern Conference Finals in 2022 where they matched up against the Boston Celtics.

Heat's Future in Limbo

As of now, it's up in the air, considering Jimmy Butler's contract situation and the overall future of the Miami Heat.

The Heat could be looking to make a blockbuster move once again in an attempt to acquire a star for some help in their quest for a championship. This could possibly see young Miami staples like Tyler Herro or Nikola Jović on the move.

There are plenty of reasons to run it back with their current squad in place, however, the Miami Heat do have to start planning for the future.
