NCAA Tournament Player Profile: Zach Edey Dominants in Purdue's Championship Run

The legend of Purdue's Zach Edey continues to grow.

Behind the stellar play of big man Edey, the Purdue Boilermakers are on the cusp of heading to their sixth National Championship.

Last season, Purdue fell to the hands of Fairleigh Dickinson in a first-round upset back in March 2023.

Despite their collapse in the 2023 NCAA Tournament's first round, Zach Edey returned a better player; dominating every team on the road as he won the 2023 National Player of the Year Award.

Now the 7 foot 4 center is back in the NCAA Tournament mix, with Purdue playing in the Sweet 16 against Mark Few and No.5 Gonzaga.

There's no doubt that Zach Edey is one of the best players in college basketball.

Edey's body of work speaks for itself, as each year he has taken drastic steps forward throughout his collegiate career; racking up numerous awards along the way. This includes the Big Ten MVP award from just a season ago.

He remains a threat in the low post with great footwork, as well as continuing to be an elite rebounder thanks to his tremendous frame and height. Zach Edey has also proven to be one of the premier interior defenders who can block shots at will, challenging any player going to the rim.

Edey's free throw shooting has improved drastically throughout his career, and he has shown signs of being a great mid-range shooter too.

Zach Edey came up big time, making March Madness history by posting the first 30-point and 21-rebound game in the NCAA Tournament since 1995. He did this against Grambling State in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Edey continued his dominance into the next round, making quick work of the Utah State Aggies, dropping 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Zach Edey started a measly two games in his first year at Purdue, barely making it into the starting rotation early in his collegiate career.

Four years later, Edey became one of the biggest college basketball stars, winning the Big Ten Player of the Year award, and is just a few games away from potentially winning a National Championship with Purdue.
