As they say, two heads are better than one, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have good heads after acquiring two great quarterbacks.

The Steelers have revamped their quarterback selection by signing Russell Wilson, who was let go by the Denver Broncos, and Justin Fields, whose fate was finally decided by the Chicago Bears, who will pick No. 1 in the upcoming NFL 2024 draft.

Both QBs are coming into the new season hoping to prove that their former teams made the wrong choice of not sticking with them.

Wilson had moments with the Broncos, but the team's failure to make the playoffs and his salary ultimately decided the end of his tenure.

As for Fields, who was traded to the Steelers by the Bears for a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick that can become a fourth-rounder, became expendable because of the talent pool in the 2024 draft.

The Bears are expected to draft a quarterback, who could be USC's Caleb Williams.

Regardless of how their 2023 season turned out, both are still seen as reliable QBs.

The question is, who will be utilized the most, and who will be the starting quarterback?

Leadership

One main thing a quarterback should be is that he is a leader.

Pittsburgh's roster is not as talented as other teams, and this is where Wilson's wisdom and championship caliber come in.

He can call plays with commands and adjust based on what the offense asks.

Justin Fields did not have the luxury of having plays designed for him, while Wilson was at the center of schemes for many of the coaches he played for.

Fit with Steelers' old dogs

Wilson's arrival in Pittsburgh reportedly had the blessing of veteran team members

T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, and Minkah Fitzpatrick talked to him while he was still weighing his options, according to reports.

He has already established rapport with key team members, which can be huge moving forward.

Fields can take a backseat and watch how the big boys play.

Talent

Fields, a No. 11 draft pick of 2021, appears to be the most talented one right now.

Wilson has lost a step, although his accuracy is still there. However, he showed his vulnerability last season, entering the list of the most sacked quarterbacks in league history.

Even coach Mike Tomlin recognizes that Fields got this one over Wilson.

"There's a lot of meat left on the bone," Tomlin added on Fields, "and I'm excited about working on extracting it."

Fit with Tomlin

While Tomlin believes in Fields' potential, he is not interested in waiting for it to emerge. He is invested in the now.

He already made it known that Wilson has the pole position when it comes to quarterback succession.

"All the things that people really committed to winning do this time of the year. Russell has those resources and that structure," Tomlin told reporters about their quarterback situation.

"And so that's why I say he has pole position. It just creates a synergy that I think is good for this time of year. When it's time to compete and we get in training camp-like settings and we're going to stadiums and so forth, obviously Justin be given an opportunity to show people."
