Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur provided a significant update regarding Carlos Sainz Jr.'s participation in the Australian Grand Prix. The festivities began on Friday, March 22, with the main race set for Sunday, March 24.

Despite being just two weeks removed from undergoing surgery for appendicitis in Jeddah, which led to his absence from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Spanish driver is set to compete in Melbourne.

"So far, so good, we are optimistic for the weekend... I am not a doctor, but I am confident," Vasseur told the media about Sainz between the practice sessions on Friday.

Carlos Sainz still wants to be safe despite excitement

Despite his eagerness to return to the track, Sainz emphasized that he would be the first to withdraw if he did not feel well.

"But obviously, I'm not stupid. If I don't feel good tomorrow, I will be the first one to raise my hand and say that I need another two weeks to the next race," the 29-year-old said.

The two-time race winner also mentioned that he had discussed plans for a medical check with the FIA's medical delegate after the second practice session on Friday.
