Lakers: Why Gilbert Arenas Calls LeBron James a 'Rental' for LA Greatness

Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas has boldly asserted his opinions about LeBron James' legacy with the Los Angeles Lakers in a recent episode of the Nightcap Show with Shannon Sharpe.

The ex-Washington Wizards guard stated that James' legacy with the purple-and-gold franchise will never be on par with players like Kobe Bryant or Magic Johnson, who won multiple rings and dedicated their entire careers to the organization.

"LeBron was a rental for the Lakers' greatness, and that's just something he's gonna have to accept. His [scoring] milestones came in this uniform... but the legacy wasn't built here," Arenas claimed.

Gilbert Arenas doubles down on previous statements

Arenas' latest comments only reiterated his stance about the matter, as he also made similar remarks during a previous episode of the Nightcap Show, also with Shannon Sharpe.

The three-time NBA All-Star was asked if he thinks the NBA's all-time leading scorer deserves a statue outside the Lakers' homecourt Crypto.com Arena, and he delivered a bold opinion.

"If his career stops right now? Hell no. He doesn't have enough accolades in a Laker uniform. The closest statue we have is Shaq. Shaq 8 years with 3 rings. So it's gonna be hard to put him in there with six years, 8,000 points, one championship, six all-stars," Arenas declared.
