Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young is one of the most exciting talents to watch in the league, with his playing style characterized by impressive ball-handling, deep three-point shooting, and creative playmaking.

Young was initially selected as the fifth overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA draft after one season of college basketball with the University of Oklahoma. However, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in a swift draft day trade.

As part of the trade, the Hawks secured Young and acquired a protected future first-round pick from the Mavericks. In exchange, the Hawks sent the draft rights to the third overall pick, Luka Dončić, to the Mavericks.

This trade was significant for both teams, with Young and Dončić emerging as key players for their respective franchises.

The 6-foot-1 point guard made the NBA All-Star Game twice in 2020 and 2022 and the All-NBA Third Team in 2022. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2019.

Let's look at Trae Young's contract details, salary, and career earnings.

The deal is set to cover the 2022-23 season through the 2026-27 season, with the last year serving as a player option. This structure provides the elite shooter and distributor with flexibility in making decisions about the future of his career.

Before securing his current contract, Young played under a rookie scale deal spanning from the 2018-19 season to the 2021-22 season.

This initial contract amounted to $26.5 million over the first four seasons of his career, resulting in an average annual salary of $6.6 million.
