Mike McCarthy's future is up in the air right now after the Dallas Cowboys' shocking loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wildcard Round of the NFL Playoffs.

It was not just a simple loss to their rivals but a total manhandling. Except for Packers fans, nobody believed the Cowboys would lose because of the multiple advantages they were holding.

Alas, the upset took place. The higher-seed Cowboys were booted out, and now, fans are looking for someone to blame.

Team owner Jerry Jones was at a loss, too, with the defeat.

"This seems like the most painful (playoff loss) because we all had such great expectations and had hope for this team," he said. "I'm floored. This is beyond my comprehension."

He refused to comment about Mike McCarthy, but popular opinion says he must decide about the coach's future soon.

Jones is 81 years old, and time is not on his side. He wants to win now.

Can McCarthy do it for him, or does the power lie in the hands of another coach?

Should the Dallas Cowboys fire McCarthy?

It will be disastrous for the team. It's more catastrophic than their showing against the Packers.

3 main reasons why the Dallas Cowboys should not fire McCarthy

1. Defensive coordinator will leave

McCarthy should stay because the coaching staff could get disassembled, which means they would have to start from scratch.

One key person who could depart soon is defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who reports stated was already interviewed by four NFL teams for a head coaching position.

His defensive strategy against the Packers was tested, and despite the result, those teams were unfazed and remained persistent in moving forward with Quinn.

It would be nice if the Cowboys could keep Quinn, too.

But if they will lose him, together with McCarthy, then the squad is doomed. In this league, it is a long way up, starting from scratch.

Sure, some coaches can establish their own system quickly, but the players are already used to the old system that kept them afloat.

Which brings us to the next point.

2. He kept the Cowboys within striking distance of the Super Bowl

McCarthy made major changes in his coaching staff in January 2023, which should indicate that he's been here for a long time.

That could change, sure. Only results matter in this game.

However, he got results to show for, too. Since taking over in 2020, McCarthy has won 36 games in the last three seasons. That is the same number of wins the Jets have recorded in the last seven years. And the latter wouldn't even fire their coach.

He sent the Cowboys to a first-place finish in two of those three seasons.

3. Relationship with QB, players

Dak Prescott had the best seasons of his football career under McCarthy. Micah Parsons' game leveled up under him.

They are talented in their own ways, for sure, but they need to play in the right system for these talents to be brought out.

The MVP candidate vouches for McCarthy, and he believes they should keep him.

"This team has had the success they've had because of him. I understand it's about winning the Super Bowl, and that's the standard of the league and damn sure should be the standard of this place. I get it, but add me to the list [of people to be fired] in that case."
