Texas Longhorns Coaching Changes: Jim Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin Candidates To Replace Mack Brown? [VIDEO]

NFL mainstay coaches Jim Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin are among the candidates rumored as potential replacements for embattled Texas coach Mack Brown, according to CBSSports.com.

After an 8-4 season during which the Longhorns dropped two of their final three games by at least 20 points, Brown is rumored to be on the way out in Austin after 16 seasons and the list of his potential successors seems to be growing by the hour.

"I'm sure Texas hopes there's a chance there," Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com told CBS of school official's hopes of having both Harbaugh and Tomlin agree to allow themselves to be formally considered for the prospective post. "I think there's no question Texas is going to aim high here. I've been told they're going to aim for a coach that's won a national championship or a Super Bowl."

This NFL season, Harbaugh has the San Francisco 49ers poised for what looks like another strong playoff run, while Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled to a 5-8 campaign.

Of Texas' mindset, Chip Brown later added "I think Nick Saban's at the top of the list. I think Urban Meyer would be probably be second." In the case of Harbaugh, who previously coached at Stanford, he reasoned "school president Bill Powers is a Cal graduate and wants Texas to be seen in the same light as Cal and Stanford."
