Red Sox Appoint Former Pitcher for World Series Winning Squad as New Chief Baseball Officer

The Boston Red Sox are appointing a former player and a member of their 2013 World Series-winning team to lead their baseball operations division.

Craig Breslow, a former relief pitcher, is reportedly assuming the role of the team's Chief Baseball Officer, first reported by the Boston Globe.

Currently serving as the assistant general manager, vice president, and director of pitching for the Chicago Cubs, Breslow accepted the offer for the top position within the Red Sox organization on Tuesday, October 24.

Upon joining the Cubs in January 2019, the 43-year-old began his tenure as the director of strategic initiatives for baseball operations, gradually advancing through various positions within the organization.

The Red Sox fired previous Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom last month following a challenging four-year period, which included three occasions of finishing at the bottom of the American League East division, most recently in the 2023 season, where the team posted a record of 78-84.

Craig Breslow was a former player for the Red Sox

Breslow enjoyed a lengthy playing career from 2005 to 2017, during which he had two stints with the Red Sox, first in 2006 and then from 2012 to 2015.

Boston's new chief baseball officer won a World Series with the team as a reliever in 2013.

The pitcher's playing career also included stints with the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Miami Marlins.
