The Los Angeles Dodgers knew they acquired a huge player in Mookie Betts from the Boston Red Sox, and the seven-time All-Star did not disappoint.

The 30-year-old outfielder wrapped up a good month of August that saw him join the ranks of MLB greats like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Betts hit two home runs on the final day of August, although it could have been sweeter had the Dodgers won over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

Regardless, the Dodgers and Betts had a good August overall. They went 24-5 last month, padding their hold of the NL West from two games to 13.5.

However, it was epic for the two-time World Series champion since his August performance made him only the third player to hold an average of .450 with 50 hits and 10 home runs in a single month, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Ruth did the trick in July 1923-24, while Gehrig achieved the feat in June 1930.

Looking ahead, there is no doubt that Betts is a huge favorite to win the National League MVP for the current season, and his August showing will undoubtedly work to his benefit.

Ronald Acuña Jr. also enters the MLB record books

Betts' feat overshadowed the efforts of Ronald Acuña Jr., who also had a memorable night. After hitting his 30th homer for the year, the four-time All-Star also made MLB history by becoming the first player to have 30 home runs and 60 steals in the same season, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The 25-year-old Acuña was also responsible for helping the Braves build a sizeable lead over the Dodgers. This was after the Venezuelan hit a grand slam over Lance Lynn that capped the Braves' six-run rally in the top of the second.
