Former Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya blasted Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton for commenting on Max Verstappen and Red Bull's dominance this season.

The seven-time race winner criticized Hamilton, sarcastically saying it is "very cool to complain when you are not winning." Montoya noted that when Hamilton was winning, the Brit said his Mercedes car had no advantage against the rest of the field.

"But in reality, Mercedes' advantage was as big as what Red Bull currently has," the former Williams and McLaren driver said in an interview with Formula Passion, translated into English.

Montoya also reiterated that the car is a major factor in winning races aside from the driver's skills.

"I don't want to say that Hamilton is not good, he is a very good driver but the reality of this sport is that you have to be in the best car," the 47-year-old said.

Hamilton's previous comments

The seven-time world champion previously mentioned that one team or driver dominating the world's premier racing series is not good for the sport.

So far, Red Bull Racing has won all 12 races this season, with rival Max Verstappen responsible for ten of them and cruising his way to a third straight championship.

Hamilton's comments received criticism for his perceived hypocrisy, as Mercedes was previously the dominant team in Formula One.

Before the major regulation changes in 2022, Mercedes had won eight consecutive Constructors' titles, while Hamilton claimed six Drivers' championships in the same span.
