The Atlanta Hawks are finalizing to bring back Dejounte Murray to a four-year extension worth $120 million, which will kick off in the 2024-25 NBA season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The one-time All-Star is entering the final year of his contract in 2023-24, a four-year, $64 million deal given by the Spurs in 2019 and took effect in 2020-21.

The San Antonio Spurs drafted Murray with the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, and he spent the first six seasons of his career under the tutelage of Gregg Popovich.

Dejounte Murray: All-Star Caliber

Murray's descent to All-Star territory is a remarkable comeback after sustaining a torn ACL on his right knee during a preseason game against the Houston Rockets in October 2018. The unfortunate injury caused him to miss the entire 2018-19 NBA season.

The Washington native had his breakout season in 2021-22 during his final year in San Antonio, getting selected to the 2022 NBA All-Star Game and finishing second behind Ja Morant in the voting for the 2022 NBA Most Improved Player.

After being named as an All-Star and leading the league in steals in 2022, the 6-foot-5 guard was traded to the Atlanta Hawks during the summer of that year.

The 26-year-old averaged 20.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 74 games in his first season in Atlanta, wherein they made the playoffs, getting eliminated by the Boston Celtics in six games.
