Brittney Griner: WNBA Return Set

Brittney Griner traveled to Moscow in February 2022 to reunite with UMMC Ekaterinburg, a Russian women's team she has been playing with during the offseason since 2014.

However, Griner was taken into custody at the Moscow airport on drug-related allegations and was imprisoned for almost 10 months, with a significant portion of that time spent in jail. This occurred while Russia was invading Ukraine, exacerbating tensions between Russia and the United States. Her situation came to a close only after she was released in exchange for Viktor Bout, a well-known Russian arms dealer who is also nicknamed the "Merchant of Death."

Despite this setback, Griner signed a new one-year contract with the Mercury in February and is eagerly anticipating her return to the court. The Mercury's season opener will be on May 19, with an away game against the Los Angeles Sparks.

All in all, the May 21 home opener is shaping up to be an unforgettable event, with Jean's performance and Griner's comeback adding to the excitement.
