Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray's actions after his team's Game 4 loss to the Boston Celtics are under investigation by the NBA, as reported by multiple sources.

The probe comes in response to a video on Twitter that appears to show Murray making contact with a referee at the end of the game.

It is unclear whether the contact was accidental or intentional. After the incident, Murray was escorted off the court by team personnel.

Suspension for Making Contact With a Referee

Earlier this season, Boston's Grant Williams received a one-game suspension for making contact with a referee.

If Murray also faces a suspension, the Hawks will be without one of their top scorers during the crucial Game 5.

Murray scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the team's Game 4 loss. Throughout the game, the Hawks were unhappy with several calls made by the referees, including a flagrant-1 foul called on Trae Young.

The NBA rulebook states that any player or coach who intentionally makes physical contact with an official will automatically be suspended without pay for one game.

However, not all incidents result in suspension; for example, Hamidou Diallo of the Detroit Pistons was fined $20,000 for making contact with a referee in February 2022 but wasn't suspended.

Whether the NBA decides to take action on the video of Murray's contact with the referee and what action is taken will impact the Hawks' chances of winning Game 5. The Celtics currently lead the series 3-1, and if the Hawks lose Game 5, their postseason run will come to an end.
