This is the sports crossover that Milwaukee fans wanted to see. The MLB team announced that Bucks superstar and reigning NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo had decided to venture into the baseball world, purchasing a minority stake in the Milwaukee Brewers.
Antetokounmpo was delighted with his new career move, saying at the news conference that "this is a dream come true for a kid from Sepolia, Athens, Greece, born from immigrant parents." Antetokounmpo, who was presented a No. 34 Brewers baseball jersey, said it was unbelievable, and he never imagined being in this position.
Ownership agreement between Attanasio and Antetokounmpo made final in May
Principal owner Mark Attanasio was thrilled as well with Antetokounmpo's move to MLB, saying, "We are honored to have Giannis join our team of Milwaukee Brewers investors." Attanasio added that "Giannis is a great athlete, a world champion, and a true local hero with international renown."
The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is the first new individual investor the Brewers have had in the ownership group since Attanasio took control of the franchise in 2005. Antetokounmpo's decision to be a part-owner of the city's baseball team comes just a month after leading the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA title in 50 years.
Attanasio and Antetokounmpo said the agreement was already finalized back in May, but they wanted to hold off the announcement at the time so as not to distract from the Bucks' NBA championship run and the early part of the Brewers' MLB season as well.
Antetokounmpo said he first entertained thoughts about owning a pro sports franchise last year while he was at Walt Disney World playing in the NBA playoff bubble. Antetokounmpo and his team first discussed the possibility of buying a soccer club in Europe but decided to invest in the Brewers instead, given his ties to the city of Milwaukee.

Brewers looking to follow Bucks and win MLB title this year
Antetokounmpo told reporters that he wanted to be involved in the community as much as possible, saying, "I know Milwaukee invested a lot in me, and I want to invest a lot of me back into the city of Milwaukee."
The Brewers are in a prime position to replicate the title-winning feat of the Bucks this season. They currently lead the National League Central division by 6.5 games over the Cincinnati Reds, with the Brewers carrying a 74-49 slate.
Attanasio said that he wanted Antetokounmpo's good karma to rub off on the Brewers, who have never won a World Series before and whose last NL pennant came way back in 1981. Antetokounmpo knows that feeling, spending eight long years with the Bucks before finally lifting the title this year.
