Cleveland Pick Point Guard Collin Sexton At #8: Enough To Make LeBron James Stay With Cavs?

Cleveland Cavaliers draftee Collin Sexton has yet to play a single NBA game but has already called four-time Most Valuable Player LeBron James out.

The 19-year-old Sexton who was selected by the Cavaliers as the eighth overall pick on Thursday's NBA draft is confident that he and James could bring the Cavaliers back into the finals. Sexton averaged 19.2 points and 3.6 assists for Alabama in college.

"Man, LeBron, let's do it! Let's do it. I see you needed a few pieces, one or two pieces last season and let's do it. Let's go back to the Finals. Let's do it!" an excited Sexton said.

Led by the incredible play of James, the Cavaliers returned to the finals for the fourth consecutive time only to lose against the Golden State Warriors this year. James stuffed the stat sheet averaging 34.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 9.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.0 block per game in the playoffs.

James' name has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers with the 14-time All-Star heading to the City of Angels in exchange for versatile court general Lonzo Ball. The former scoring champion is set to make a decision on his future with the Cavaliers before June 30.

A Big Help For The Cavaliers

Sexton is expected to provide the much-needed depth on the point guard position for the Cavaliers. Last season, the starting point guards of the Cavaliers found themselves in the 28th spot when it comes to points and assists per game.

He has also the record for the most points scored by a freshman in a single season while being named as the SEC Newcomer of the Year. He also joined Kentucky's Kevin Knox to be recognized as the co-freshman of the year.

The Alabama scoring machine captured the wide imagination of the basketball fans across the globe when he exploded for 40 points last year in a heartbreaking loss to Minnesota. However, prior to selecting Sexton with the eighth pick, the Cavaliers tried to make a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for the fourth overall pick but both teams failed to reach an agreement.

The Cavaliers got the opportunity to pick eighth overall after last trade with the Boston Celtics involving Kyrie Irving. The pick is originally owned by the Brooklyn Nets. Cleveland's selection of Sexton also marked as the highest selection by a team coming off a finals appearance since the Celtics selected Len Bias in 1986.
