NFL Rumor Roundup: Kyle Shanahan Not Rushing QB Search, Victor Cruz to Panthers and More!

The NFL offseason has officially started as teams decide which players will stay or go. New head coaches are also going to make some tough decisions along the way. Here is the latest NFL rumor roundup headlined by new San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and his search for a quarterback.

Kyle Shanahan not in a rush to find QB

Fresh off a disappointing collapse at Super Bowl 51, the former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator has taken the reigns in San Francisco. The most glaring need for the 49ers is at quarterback with Colin Kaepernick expected to become a free agent this offseason.

However, Shanahan told CSN Bay Area that he will be patient in his search for a new quarterback. He noted that he is going to be active in exploring trades, available free agents and the 2017 NFL Draft to rebuild the entire team and not just one position.

The 49ers have the second overall selection in this year's NFL Draft but they are not considering reaching for a quarterback. They are going after the best player available on the board like defensive end Myles Garrett, defensive linebacker Jonathan Allen, safety Jamal Adams and running back Dalvin Cook.

Victor Cruz to Carolina Panthers?

The New York Giants cut ties with Victor Cruz last week but the veteran wide receiver already received a workout with the Carolina Panthers. He reportedly spent the weekend in Charlotte and talked to former Giants executive and current Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman, per Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com.

There is mutual interest between the two sides with Cruz believing that he can still play at a high level and the Panthers needing a wide receiver. However, no deal is imminent and the 30-year-old WR could visit other teams this offseason.

Dallas Cowboys create cap space

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, the Cowboys have freed up $17.3 million in cap space after restructuring the contracts of center Travis Frederick and left tackle Tyron Smith. The move allows the Cowboys to be under the $168 million salary cap for next season.
