Florida State quarterback and leading Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston is being investigated by Tallahassee Police Department for felony sexual assault, according to TMZ.

The website reports a woman filed a sex assault complaint on Dec. 7, of 2012 claiming the attack was committed with the use of "physical force." TMZ adds that investigators describe the motive for the attack as "sexual gratification" and detail that the alleged victim admits there had been drinking before the incident occurred.

On Wednesday, a rep for FSU issued a statement saying, "we are aware of a matter that was investigated by the Tallahassee Police Department almost a year ago. Because the investigation has not been closed by TPD, we cannot comment further at this time. We look forward to a speedy resolution of the issue. There is no change in Jameis Winston's status."

On the day in question, TMZ reports someone called police around 4 AM and arriving officers immediately took photos of the alleged victim's injuries and collected physical evidence.

While police classify the investigation as ongoing, TMZ reports Winston has already been interviewed. In Florida, the charge of felony sexaul assault requires proof that the perpetrator penetrated the victim either orally, anally, or vaginally.
