NBA News: Sacramento Kings Confirms Rudy Gay Will Miss Rmaining Season With Left Achilles Tendon

The Sacramento Kings announced on Thursday that their forward Rudy Gay suffered a torn Achilles tendon Wednesday night against the Pacers, as it was previously feared by the management. Gay will ultimately require a surgery and will subsequently miss the remainder of the season.

The injury will have a number bad impacts on the future of Gay and the Kings. He will face a tough decision in free agency. It is not just about basketball or business ramifications. There is pain, surgery, rehab, all these are part of a human experience one needs to understand.

But Gay also holds an opt-out this summer for the 2017-18 season. If he opts in, he makes just $14 million. If he comes back and struggles with his performances, as do many players when they come back from an Achilles tendon injury, he could even cost himself more money the following summer.

30-year old Gay's market won't be great coming off an Achilles tendon surgery. However, 31-year old one year down, full recovered from Achilles tendon injury won't also do good in the market unless he recovers in a remarkable fashion and stay match fit.

This is all one should know including the factor that Gay is a questionable impact player who is high-usage and takes a lot of mid-range jumpers.

This injury complicates the matters for Kings too, Gay had set himself to leave in a free agency, and the Kings have been trying to find a way to get rid of him with a good deal from the past six months. Now, no one is trading for this player who will just be back from injury and especially knowing the fact that he has another season on his contract if he opts in.

If he opts in, that limits what they can do in free agency. It also hurts the Kings as Gay was one the most productive members of the team.
