Tim Tebow News: Jacksonville Councilman Campaigns For Tebowmania, Requests Jaguars Sign Free Agent Quarterback [VIDEO]

A Jacksonville city councilman has started a campaign aimed at getting "hometown hero" Tim Tebow signed by the Jaguars.

During a formal city council session to discuss the city's $43 million share of funding new scoreboards at EverBank Field on Thursday, councilman Don Redman asked Jacksonville Jaguars lobbyist Paul Harden for an update on his earlier request that the team ink Tebow.

Redman also later told the Jacksonville Business Journal he spoke with owner Shad Khan last year about a Tebow signing and was told by Shad he likes Tebow, but he had hired GM David Caldwell to handle all such matters.

"If you want to sell tickets, get Tebow in there," The Journal quoted Redman as stating during the meeting. "Draw a crowd."

On Friday, Redman's train-of-thought seemed much the same. "I don't know why they wouldn't consider it," he said. "It would be as good for the city as the jumbotron."

While Redman admits he has a close, personal relationship with the Tebow family, he insists his thinking here is all business related, adding that Khan would recoup the money spent on signing Tebow just off selling products, such as T-shirts.

Either way, the home folk figure to be seeing a lot more of the former Florida star in the future. Along with his brother, Robbie, Tebow recently opened the first of his PDQ chicken restaurants in the area last week.

PDQ officials have indicated long-term plans call for the opening of several more local eateries and company owners hope to put as many as 500 people to work through operations.
