South Carolina is looking to avoid a letdown after a double overtime victory brought the team's spirits up to an all new level. After trailing 17-0 in the fourth quarter last Saturday, the team rallied for a 27-24 victory over then-ranked No.5 Missouri on the back of banged up signal caller Connor Shaw.

Shaw is 112-for-174 (64.4%) this season for 1,508 yards with 14 touchdowns and one interception.

Shaw has been dealing with a virus that could sideline him, which would be a tough hit to a Gamecocks team that is 22-5 when Shaw starts. Coach Steve Spurrier wants the team to put its celebrations from last week aside and look ahead to beating Mississippi State.

"We know we were very fortunate last week, and we are trying not to harp on it, talk about it," Spurrier told ESPN Tuesday. "It's history, it's in the record books and now we have to try to play our best against Mississippi State."

"I still don't think our team," Spurrier continued, "has played as well as we are capable."

Shaw came into last week's game in the third quarter despite ailing from a sprained knee and led the team to victory after backup Dylan Thompson couldn't avoid mistakes. Shaw put up 201 yards and three touchdowns to lead the team to a dramatic victory.

"I couldn't go to sleep Saturday night after returning home," said defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles via ESPN,

Now, South Carolina is looking to beat Mississippi State for the seventh consecutive time while simultaneously tying a school record set in 1978-80 by winning their 15th consecutive home game.

Bulldogs' quarterback Dak Prescott knows it will be a challenge against defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

"We know where he's going to be and we've got some things for him," Prescott told ESPN. "It's all in the game plan."

Prescott is 86-for-150 (57.3%) for 1,158 yards with five touchdowns and three picks this season.

Mississippi State is coming off of a 28-22 win over Kentucky where Prescott threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns.

South Carolina is excited coming off of their recent win and with the way the season has gone.

"We are fired up that after eight games we are in the hunt for the Eastern Division along with three other teams," Spurrier told ESPN. "We play them one at a time, play it out and see where we finish up when the year is over."

South Carolina looks to tie a record for consecutive home victories while Mississippi looks to avoid falling to them for the seventh consecutive time when these two teams take the field this afternoon.
