Brandon Marshall: Brandon Meriweather Should Be Suspended For Helmet Hits [VIDEO]

It's not quite what he advocated for, but the NFL seems to agree with Brandon Marshall when it comes to Brandon Meriweather.

One day after Marshall told ESPN the NFL should ban the hard-hitting Washington Redskins safety after he suffered a wrist injury on a hit delivered by Meriweather he deemed to be in violation of the league's helmet to helmet hitting rule, the league is expected to suspend Meriweather for up to two games..

"I respect the league trying to better our game," Marshall said following Chicago's 45-41 loss. "Guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely."

Indeed, Meriweather has a history of making helmet-to-helmet hits. He was also penalized in Sunday's game for a similar hit on Bears receiver Alshon Jeffrey. The 29-year-old Meriweather already has been fined this season for a helmet-first hit on Packers running back Eddie Lacy in Week 2.

"I'm not venting or anything," Marshall said. "I understand big hits. That's part of our game, but when you have a guy that does it week in and week out, that's when it becomes a problem."

Even the seven-year veteran Meriweather acknowledged beforehand he expected to be penalized. "Anybody else want to chip in on my dinner?" Meriweather said. "I can't afford it right now."

Meriweather was fined $42,000 for his hit on Lacy, who suffered a concussion on the play. Meriweather also sustained a concussion later in that game when he led with his helmet on another tackle attempt. Meriweather also was previously fined $50,000 for a hit in 2010 and accrued $45,000 in fines the following season.
