Reports indicate that the following was taped this past Tuesday for WWE SmackDown set to air this coming Friday Oct. 11. The show focused on the fallout from the Battleground pay-per-view while also setting some of the build-up to the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view Oct. 27.
In the main event of the evening, recently reinstated Cody Rhodes and Goldust took on Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, and got the victory when Cody pinned Harper to close out the show. Bray Wyatt was angry to see his team lose.
The show began when Vickie Guerrero came out to discuss the firing of The Big Show. Alberto Del Rio interrupted to complain about his World Heavyweight Championship defense against the returning John Cena at Hell in a Cell, and he said he wanted it to be canceled. The two of them were then interrupted by Damien Sandow, which led to Guerrero announcing a match between the two of them for later in the show. In the match, Del Rio eventually won after he made Sandow tap out to the cross armbreaker.
In other action on the show, Curtis Axel successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against R-Truth, Los Matadores defeated El Locos and The Great Khali and the Prime Time Players defeated 3MB.
In divas action, Cameron, Naomi and Brie Bella beat Eva Marie, Natalya and Kaitlin in a six-diva tag match after Naomi got the win by pinning Kaitlin. It is notable that the show did not feature major players in major angles such as Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, The Big Show, Ryback or Triple H, and appeared to be a more low-key SmackDown episode. The only major face shown outside of the World Heavyweight Title picture was John Cena, as WWE promoted his appearance on Good Morning America.
As WWE starts to set their pieces in order for their second pay-per-view of the month in Hell in a Cell on Oct. 27, it was missing a few of its key players on this episode of SmackDown as the Rhodes family closed things out.
