With Colin Kaepernick put on injured reserve Saturday to recover from a fully torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder, the 49ers will begin to explore trade options in the offseason, per NFL.com. The most likely trade partner resides in Cleveland.

For San Francisco, dealing Kaepernick brings the added benefit of cap relief. The 49ers are on the hook for $11.9 million in guaranteed salary for 2016, an amount that would disappear if he's traded.

If you know anything about Cleveland's QB history, that's an affordable price for a tortured franchise. Especially at the most important position in football.
In sending Manziel the other way, the Browns offload an off-the-field headache and turn the page to a new era. Desperate to offload Kaepernick's contract, San Francisco should welcome him with open arms.
Just not as the team's starting QB.
With some draft compensation, the 49ers can turn to the collegiate game to find their next face of the franchise.
The offseason is still months away. There's ample time to iron out the details, but the talks between the two parties should open immediately.
