Jon Bostic, Chicago Bears Linebacker Fined $21,000 For Hit On Chargers Receiver Mike Willie [VIDEO], Won't Change Style

Chicago Bears rookie linebacker Jon Bostic is insisting the $21,000 fine NFL officials imposed on him for his textbook hit on San Diego Chargers wide receiver Mike Willie will not affect his play.

Though many across the league, including Bears coach Marc Trestman, have labeled the jarring tackle a “clean hit,” league officials cited a rule involving a player “lowering his head and making forcible contact with a defenseless player's body” as their reason for fining the rookie out of Florida.

"I'm still trying to figure that stuff out," Bostic told ESPN. "Obviously I'm new to the league. There's going to be a lot of new things I'm going to have to find out. I'm learning from the older guys and really just finding out the process.

Lance Briggs’ advice and message to his teammate is clear and forceful. “You have to continue to play football the best way you know how and that's what he was doing,” Briggs told ESPN. “None of the referees seemed to think there was anything wrong with the play."

Footage shows Bostic hit Willie's chest region after the short pass, instantly separating the receiver from the ball. The pass was ruled incomplete and Bostic was not flagged on the play.

He could have allowed the receiver to run him over -- that's another technique," Briggs sarcastically told ESPN when asked what his teammate could have done differently. "We could play the catch technique, we could take a charge.”
