New York Knicks Re-Sign Free Agent Forward Kenyon Martin

The New York Knicks have re-signed free agent forward Kenyon Martin, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Martin, who played the last 18 games with the Knicks last season, inked a one-year deal for the league minimum of $1.4 million. Martin, 35, made a lasting impression with the team during his abbreviated stint last season, averaging 7.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in just less than 24 minutes a game, including 11 starts. In 12 playoff games, he averaged nearly six points in just 21 minutes a night.

In 13 NBA seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers and the Knicks, Martin has career averages of 12.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft out of the University of Cincinnati. Playing under the legendary Bob Huggins, Martin found him homesick in his freshmen season and eventually left school to return to his hometown of Dallas. His mother and older sister were able to talk him into returning to the university.

While in New Jersey playing alongside Jason Kidd, Martin led the Nets to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances beginning in 2002. During the 2004 season, he averaged 16.7 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in being named to his first Eastern Conference All-Star team.
