Carmelo Anthony Insists No Plans Of Joining Los Angeles Lakers, Teaming With LeBron James [VIDEO]

“Um, I doubt it.” With those words Carmelo Anthony lifted the spirits of New York fans far and wide and poured still more salt in the open wounds of Los Angeles Lakers fans.

In recent days, the high-scoring Knicks forward had been rumored to be contemplating a move to L.A. once his deal with the Knicks hits an early termination clause, allowing him to walk away at the end of the 2014 season. What’s more, the L.A. master plan was said to include him perhaps bringing fellow free agent LeBron James out west with him in what would easily rate as the one of the NBA's ultimate rebuilding plans.

With only Steve Nash and Robert Sacre under contract after next season, the Lakers were said to already be clearing even more space than needed to offer each of them a max deal.

But this week, Anthony put all the ambitious, post-Dwight Howard plans on hold by telling TMZ that even though “he owns purple and gold shoes” he has no plans of wearing them on the hardwood or joining the Lakers.

And though he concedes he and James have been “pretty damn good” when they’ve played together, he added they are not hatching some sort of secret plan for teaming together.

Current Lakers star Kobe Bryant is also set to become a free agent at the end of next season.
