La'el Collins Murder Investigations: LSU Product May Skip 2015 Season, Re-Enter 2016 NFL Draft

One of the most intriguing storylines of Thursday night's first round of the 2015 NFL Draft was the future of LSU offensive tackleLa'el Collins, whose name has gotten caught up in a murder investigation.

Brittany Mills, a 24-year-old pregnant woman and ex-girlfriend of Collins, was found shot to death on April 24; the baby survived. Collins is wanted back in Baton Rouge for questioning on the matter, and even though police have said he is not currently a suspect, NFL teams are avoiding him like the plague. Collins, arguably the best tackle in the draft class, went undrafted in Round 1 and may not be taken at all.

Collins is delaying his conversation with police until after the NFL Draft concludes; this could be taken as a sign he doesn't believe he'll be selected, and he might consider re-applying in 2016 rather than signing a free agent deal and giving up the guaranteed money a first or even second round pick can receive.

The NFL is rife with embarrassing and tragic off-field situations, such as Aaron Hernandez's first degree murder conviction this spring, the domestic violence cases involving Ray Rice and Greg Hardy, the child abuse case that swallowed up Adrian Peterson's 2014, and Jovan Belcher's murder-suicide in which he killed his girlfriend then shot himself at the Kansas City Chiefs' facility.

It  hasn't been made public if Collins is the father of Mills' child.
