After a six-game road trip to start the year, the Cardinals are ready to come home for the first time in this matinee game.

"They are real excited," St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said of his players, according to MLB.com. "It's a big deal. Opening Day for us is a holiday in St. Louis. We want [the players] to get their work in, enjoy it, and take it all in."

Wainwright, who will make his fourth home-opener start, is coming off of a stellar Opening Day performance last Sunday that saw him shutout the Chicago Cubs for six innings en route to a 3-0 win for the Redbirds.

Garza, a former Cub, is coming off of a five-inning four-run loss against the Colorado Rockies. He's still in search of his first victory at Busch Stadium.

A day after picking up their first win of the season, the Brewers were trampled 10-2 by the Pirates in the rubber match of their three-game series on Sunday.

Milwaukee is hoping to get catcher Jonathan Lucroy going as after making the All-Star game in 2014 and finishing fourth in NL MVP voting, he is off to a 1-for-20 start through five games this season.

The Cardinals are coming off of a 7-5 victory over the Reds in 11 innings on Sunday. Third baseman Matt Carpenter hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the 11th and collected four RBI while shortstop Jhonny Peralta also went deep for the first time on the campaign.

The Cardinals come home for the first time in 2015 when they host the Brewers live from Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
