Will Ferrell is stepping out of the silver screen and into the tennis realm when he hosts a big celebrity events later this month.
According to The Desert Sun, Ferrell, star in such hit movies as Anchorman and Step Brothers, will host one of two big celebrity tennis events that coincide with the BNP Paribas Open.
Ferrell will host the Desert Smash event, which takes place on March 10 from the La Quinta Resort & Club. The event will benefit Cancer for College, which provides college scholarships to cancer survivors.
The Desert Smash is in its 11th year and allows people to play in and watch exhibition matches that feature professional tennis players and celebrities.
Ferrell will host and play at the event, which will pit tennis greats against Hollywood stars.
Ferrell told the publication he is excited for the event.
"I will be spending the next 30 days in solitude hiking the San Jacinto Mountains with nothing more than my racket and a spiritual adviser I found loitering in the beef jerky aisle at the 7-Eleven off Highway 111," Ferrell joked in a statement. "All I know is when I come down off that mountain and hit the main court at La Quinta on March 10, I'll be ready for business."
Other celebrities booked to appear include Grey's Anatomy's Justin Chambers and Kevin McKidd, Justified and Live Free or Die Hard's Timothy Olyphan, Love & Basketball's Boris Kodjoe and musicians RedFoo (LMFAO) and Lance Bass (NSYNC).
There will also be plenty of notable tennis players in attendance, including ATP World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and ATP World No. 1 Doubles Team Bob & Mike Bryan.
This event will also include a Player Party and surprise musical performance.
