WrestleMania 31 Rumors: Sting vs. Triple H Update, Speculation On Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson [VIDEO]

It appears as though the WWE is going full throttle with a Triple H vs. Steve "Sting" Borden match at WrestleMania 31 while Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson won't be working the Show of Shows and The Undertaker remains doubtful.

Updated Plans and Spoilers For Brock Lesnar's WWE Return and Beyond

Sting has officially signed a WWE contract and even though a match between him and The Undertaker has been rumored for a long time, it may not be happening at WrestleMania 31 on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The WWE also seemed to drop hints in October that The Rock would battle Triple H at the biggest event of 2015, but those plans seem nixed due to The Rock's busy movie schedule.

Backstage WWE Reaction To CM Punk Joining UFC

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that as of Thanksgiving, The Rock wasn't penciled into the WWE's plans for WrestleMania 31, leading to the belief that a Triple H vs. Sting match will occur instead.

The Rock has a lot of movies planned for early 2015 and the next year overall and there is some belief that his filming schedule will not allow him to work a WrestleMania program.

There is a possibility that The Rock shows up for a cameo appearance as he did to open WrestleMania XXX alongside WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. There have been rumors that The Rock could be inducted into the 2015 Hall of Fame class as well.

The Rock returned to WWE television in October during an episode of RAW that emanated from Brooklyn, and he got into it with Rusev. The WWE then filmed something for that week's SmackDown with him and Triple H hinting at a match at WrestleMania 31.

While the seeds were planted, it doesn't seem like a Rock vs. Triple H match will happen, especially after Sting started a program with "The Game" at the Survivor Series.

After years of back and forth, Sting finally signed a performance deal with the WWE this year and is expected to wrestle his first WWE match -- and possibly the last bout of his career -- at WrestleMania 31.

It has long been rumored that Sting would battle The Undertaker, but with 'Taker's status up in the air, it appears as though that match may be off the board.

There were rumors that Sting vs. Undertaker would happen at WrestleMania XXX, but the WWE opted to have Brock Lesnar take on the Deadman.

Lesnar ended up winning the match and ending The Streak, leading to his monster push that carried him to his current WWE World Heavyweight Championship run.

The loss of The Streak mixed with 'Taker getting injured during the bout last April has put his career up in the air and there are doubts that he'll perform at this year's big show.

Despite the rumors of The Undertaker not wrestling on March 29, there have been rumors that he may indeed show up for a match while he is also being used on WWE trucks promoting WrestleMania 31.  Still, the plans for 'Taker are very up in the air with the event rapidly approaching.

With these elements in play regarding the uncertainty of The Rock and The Undertaker, the WWE has a Triple H vs. Sting bout penciled in for the Show of Shows in March after the events of November's Survivor Series.

Sting made his debut at the November Classic by having a stare down with Triple H that led to the former WCW and TNA icon dropping "The Game" with the Scorpion Death Drop.

Sting then placed Dolph Ziggler on top of Seth Rollins to ensure that Team Cena won the traditional elimination main event and that The Authority lost their power.

This was done to plant the seeds for the eventual WrestleMania match between the two, which will see Sting step into a WWE ring as an active competitor for the first time.

Other matches rumored for the Show of Shows include Rusev vs. John Cena and Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Sting reportedly has six appearances on his deal -- five now that Survivor Series occurred -- and he'll be featured prominently on television in early 2015 leading to his likely bout with Triple H at WrestleMania 31.
