Veteran forward Scott Gomez is back where his NHL career began as he agreed to a contract that will see him return to the New Jersey Devils for the first time since 2007.
According to NHL.com, Gomez inked a pact with the Devils, but the details of the deal are unknown at this time.
Gomez, 37, was with New Jersey in training camp on a tryout agreement and continued to skate with the team when it wasn't on the road.
After being drafted by the Devils No. 27 overall in the 1998 NHL Draft, Gomez won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's best rookie in 2000 and helped lead New Jersey to the Stanley Cup that year and then again in 2003.
Gomez spent his first seven seasons with the Devils before going on to play for the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers.
Gomez had 116 goals, 334 assists and 450 points in 548 contests over his seven years with the Devils and had 13 tallies, 47 helpers and 60 points in 72 games with the team in the 2006-07 campaign.
Along with this move, the Devils also announced that forward Travis Zajac (lower-body) is going on the injured reserve.
New Jersey has missed the postseason the last two years following their Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2012 and sits at 9-11-4 (22 points) thus far this season, good enough for just fifth place in the Metropolitan Division.
Gomez had two goals and 10 assists for 12 points in 46 games played last season with the Panthers.
Gomez, a two-time NHL All-Star and Stanley Cup Champion, has 173 goals, 540 assists and 713 points in 987 games in his career.
