The U.S. Open is down to its last four players on each draw and the women get the first crack at action for the right to advance to the finals.
The men finished their quarterfinal match ups Thursday as No. 2 Roger Federer defeated No. 20 Gael Monfils despite putting himself in a two-set hole to start the match. Federer prevailed 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 and will face No. 14 Marin Cilic in the semifinals. Cilic had a much easier time advancing as he topped No. 6 Tomas Berdych 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
The women play today and will start off at 1:45 p.m. and the finals will likely be on Sunday.
No. 1 Serena Williams will face No. 17 Ekaterina Makarova at 3:45 p.m. ET Friday and No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki will start the action against unranked Shuai Peng of China.
