Vincenzo Nibali of team Astana snatched back the lead and wears the yellow jersey after 11 stages of the tour. Nabali will look to add to his lead on Team Sky’s Richie Porte and Alejandro Valverde of Movistar as the tour heads deeper into the mountains.
Stage 13 falls into a category between flat and mountain, but the final stretch at the end of the stage sets the record straight. 14.1km of climbing at 6.1 percent incline just to hit the monster that is the final 18.2km at 7.3 percent incline. This is another stage that could eat up the competition if they don’t set an early pace leading up to the climbs.
Nibali continues his strangle hold on the competition after his dominate stage 11 and a solid stage 12, but could easily lose his way if the weather doesn't hold up. The competition has to step up their game if they are to catch Nibali before the end of the tour in stage 21.
