Milwaukee embarks on a short five-game road trip through Toronto and Cincinnati after going 4-3 on its latest homestand while Toronto continues a nine-game home swing it is 3-4 on thus far. Both of these teams are on top of their respective divisions as the Brewers lead the National League Central and the Blue Jays pace the American League East.
Marco Estrada (7-4 5.06 ERA) mans the mound for Milwaukee while Toronto counters with Drew Hutchison, who is 5-6 with a 4.00 ERA thus far this season.
The Brewers led the MLB with 18 wins in June, but after a stretch of 20 games in 20 days fatigue may start to play a factor.
"Physically, we're starting to show the effects of it, but obviously the way we've played has been outstanding," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said via MLB.com. "Guys come in here with energy every day -- that's probably the biggest thing."
Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista made a pinch-hit appearance and grounded out in his first at-bat in a week on Sunday. The Blue Jays have won just one of their last seven series.
"Everybody knows I can't go out on the field and not be 100 percent," said Bautista, via MLB.com. "Hopefully by Tuesday I feel better and I can be in the outfield. If not, I can DH the whole game and play the day after."
Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is second in the National League in batting average (.334), hits (100) and doubles (28) while he also ranks fifth in the NL with a .403 on-base percentage and a .918 OPS.
Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez is hitting .310 with 13 homers and 44 RBI, and he is tied for fourth in the NL with 159 total bases.
Toronto designated-hitter Edwin Encarnacion leads the MLB with 186 total bases and is tied for the AL lead with 25 homers, ranks second with 65 RBI, and third in runs (55), slugging percentage (.594) and OPS (.959).
Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera is second in the AL with 103 hits while fellow outfielder Jose Bautista ranks first in the AL in on-base percentage (.432) and walks (59) and fourth in slugging percentage (.956).
