Tonight at 8:10 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Angels (30-26) and Houston Astros (24-34) take the field at Minute Made Park in Houston for the first game of a three-game set. Los Angeles continues a 10-game road trip that it is currently 2-5 on while Houston continues a seven-game homestand that it is 2-2 on thus far.
C.J. Wilson (6-4, 3.05 ERA) toes the rubber for Los Angeles while Collin McHugh (3-3, 2.80 ERA) mans the mound for Houston.
Slugging first baseman Jon Singleton makes his long-awaited debut for the Astros tonight. He'll join an Astros lineup that was sparked by the April arrival of George Springer.
"I think Singleton is going to be a force in the lineup," Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said via MLB.com. "He's a different type of player than Springer. The two of them have played together in the past and when they're both in the same lineup, you get a left-right, 1-2 punch that's pretty powerful. I think those two players will be part of our lineup for many, many years to come."
Springer leads the Astros in homers (10) and RBIs (29) while second baseman Jose Altuve paces the team with a .318 average this season.
The Angels hope a return of their own slugger will spark them tonight as Josh Hamilton returns from a thumb injury that has sidelined him since April 8. Hamilton was hitting .444 (12-for-27) with two homers and six RBIs in eight games before the injury.
"He's used to hitting right in the middle of the lineup every day," Angels manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com. "You have guys that can fill in, but it's not the same presence you have in that lineup. It's not the same depth you can create."
Angels first baseman Albert Pujols leads the team with 14 homers and has added 33 RBIs while outfielder Mike Trout is atop the team with 38 RBIs while adding 11 long-balls and he has a .294 batting average.
