The Arizona Cardinals released quarterback Kevin Kolb on Thursday after failing to reach an agreement on a restructured contract. Kolb was set to make a $2 million bonus if he was still on the Cardinals' roster Saturday. The QB had a base salary of $9 million for this season.
The 28-year-old Kolb, who was originally acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles two years ago to be the quarterback of the future has been a disappointment while in Arizona. He threw for 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in two seasons with the Cardinals.
Kolb appeared in just six games with the Cardinals last season, throwing for 1,169 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. His lack of success was not only due to unsteady play, but injury problems as well.
The Cardinals ranked last in the NFL in offense last season when led by Kolb and a rotating door of quarterbacks. Brian Hoyer, who also served as one of the Cardinals starting QBs last season, has a tendered offer from the team for next season.
