Vinny Del Negro Rumors: Frontrunner To Become Minnesota Timberwolves Coach? [VIDEO]

Veteran NBA coach Vinny Del Negro has emerged as a leading candidate for the Minnesota Timberwolves head coaching job, according to ESPN.

The website reports Wolves president Flip Saunders met with the former Bulls and Clippers coach late last week, just hours after one-time front runner Dave Joerger announced he would be remaining in Memphis as coach of the Grizzles and not taking the Wolves post.

Del Negro is also rumored to be under consideration in Cleveland, where the Cavs are hoping to land a coach soon that might be able to aid management in convincing star guard Kyrie Irving to remain with the organization as well as offer some suggestions on the what the team should do with the to No. 1 overall pick it holds in the upcoming June 26 NBA draft. 

Former Minnesota forward Sam Mitchell was once widely considered to be the favorite for the Wolves' job, but sources indicate Del Negro thoroughly impressed top team officials during his interview, catapulting him near the top of the team's wish list.

Lionel Hollins to meet with Lakers

Del Negro last coached with the Clippers before being fired after the 2013 playoffs after the 57-win regular season team was ousted in first round of playoffs. Overall, Del Negro has composed a 210-184 coaching record.

The Wolves are also rumored to have already interviewed veteran coaches Lionel Hollins and Scott Skiles for the post. Longtime Wolves coach Rick Adelman retired at the end of the season creating the opening.
