Toronto continues a six-game road trip after taking two out of three from the Texas Rangers while Boston continues a six-game homestand after getting swept away by the Detroit Tigers in a three-game set and looks to snap a four-game losing streak.
J.A. Happ (2-1, 3.57 ERA) takes the ball for the Blue Jays while Felix Doubront (2-3, 4.54 ERA) mans the hill for the Red Sox.
Boston is looking to snap this four-game funk, its first since 2012.
"We've got to regroup," said Red Sox manager John Farrell, according to MLB.com. "We've got to be better in all phases. Toronto comes in here, and this is a team that's playing well. Collectively, we have to be better all the way around."
Toronto hands the ball to Happ, who bounced back from a dismal start to hold the Cleveland Indians to one earned run and six hits his last time out while lasting six innings.
"I think you're always [trying to prove yourself] to somebody," Happ said following his second win of the season via MLB.com. "I felt good, definitely nice to go out there and have a fairly strong outing."
His counterpart Doubront will look for some consistency as he has been up and down this season despite having four quality starts.
Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has reached base in 18 of his last 19 games and is hitting .299 this season with 11 homers and 25 RBIs. Ortiz ranks fourth in the American League in on-base percentage (.394), slugging percentage (.565) and OPS (.959).
Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia ranks third in the AL in doubles (15) while first baseman Mike Napoli is tied for third in the AL in walks (30) and fifth in on-base percentage (.393).
The Red Sox announced that they've re-signed Stephen Drew to a one-year $10 million deal after he originally turned down a $14.1 million one-year qualifying offer last offseason to remain with the team and opted to test free agency.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista is tied for fourth in the AL in homers with 11 while his 35 runs rank him tied for third. Melky Cabrera is tied for the lead in the AL in hits with 58.
