Today at 1:45 p.m. ET, the Milwaukee Brewers (20-7) and St. Louis Cardinals (14-14) take the field for the third and final game of their series live from Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The red-hot Brewers go for a three-game sweep in the first series of their seven-game two-series road trip while the Cardinals look to bounce back from a 5-3 loss Monday and 5-4 setback on Tuesday in their final game of a six-game homestand that they are currently 2-3 on.
Matt Garza (1-2, 4.09 ERA) mans the mound for Milwaukee while St. Louis' Shelby Miller (2-2, 2.86 ERA) takes the ball to try and end a two-game skid.
The 1st place Brewers have already ensured that they'll win the first series of the year against last year's National League Champion Cardinals, however the team doesn't plan on relenting and wants to sweep the series from its division rivals.
"This is one of the teams we have to beat if we want to win the division, and we have a lot of games against them," third baseman Aramis Ramirez told MLB.com.
The Brewers hope Ramirez (elbow) will return as he missed Tuesday along with shortstop Jean Segura (face) and Ryan Braun (rib cage), though Segura appeared as a pinch-hitter in Tuesday's win.
Ramirez is hitting .277 thus far this season with three homers and 19 RBIs.
The Cardinals offense has been stagnant as of late, but skipper Mike Matheny hopes the team will turn it around.
"I think we need to be honest evaluators of ourselves, and guys are putting up good at-bats at times," Matheny said per MLB.com. "There are other times where we're leaving money on the table. We're never going to give somebody too much credit, even though we are facing some really good pitching."
Milwaukee first baseman Lyle Overbay is riding an eight-game hitting streak while St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina is seventh in the league with a .350 average while adding four homers and 15 RBIs.
The Brewers and Cardinals wrap up their three-game set when they take the field this afternoon at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
