Still facing charges for a crash in which a mother of five was killed, Mookie Blaylock was sentenced to 30 days in jail on Monday after pleading guilty to DUI charges in an unrelated case.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former Hawks guard is being credited with the 14 days he previously served. Blaylock must also immediately check into an in-patient rehabilitation program upon his release.
The newspaper adds on March 20, 2013, Blaylock was spotted staggering toward a grocery store as he celebrated his 46th birthday,eventually hitting another vehicle. Just 11 days later on May 31, Blaylock allegedly caused the head-on crash in Clayton County that killed the 40-year-old woman.
Blaylock also sustained critical injuries in that crash, and later turned himself in to face charges of second-degree vehicular homicide, driving on a suspended license, failure to maintain lane and crossing a center median.
David Sutter, Blaylock's attorney, told The Constitution his next court appearance in Clayton County has not yet been scheduled.
Blaylock played 13 seasons in the NBA, including with the Atlanta Hawks from 1992 to 1999. A two-time, first-team pick to the NBA's All-Defensive Team, he finished with career averages of 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game and appeared in the 1994 All-Star game.
