The Philadelphia Eagles are reinforcing their offensive line in anticipation of a bounce-back campaign in the upcoming 2024 NFL season.

The team has reportedly secured the signing of former New York Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, per league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 25-year-old intends to finalize a one-year contract valued at up to $5.5 million with the Eagles, subject to a physical examination on Monday, April 29, according to Becton's agents, Alan Herman and Jared Fox.

The Jets drafted the former Louisville player with the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

After the team declined to exercise his fifth-year option on his rookie deal, Becton became an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Schefter also added that Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland advocated for the signing of the Virginia native.

Mekhi Becton could be a massive acquisition for the Eagles

Becton has mightily struggled with injuries throughout his NFL career. After appearing in 14 games during his rookie year, he played only one game during the 2021 season and sat out the entire 2022 season due to knee issues.

He finally managed to stay on the field during the 2023 season, participating in 987 snaps across 16 regular-season games despite enduring an ankle injury.

At only 25 years old, Becton still possesses considerable upside, which could make this deal a smart signing for the Eagles if he stays healthy.
